This Self-Directed Career Planning is based on the classic model, Six Steps to Career Planning. Take the 6-step career challenge!.
It is important to remember that this is a cyclical process. Choosing a career is not a one-time decision. Take your time, be honest, and have fun.
The first step involves gathering information about yourself to assist you in making a decision about a career
You should develop an understanding of self including values, interests, aptitudes, abilities, personal traits, desired life style, and become aware of the interrelationship between self and occupational choices.
This step allows you to investigate the world of work in greater depth, narrow a general career direction into a more specific one, and declare a major.
Evaluating career choices is not always easy. It's entirely possible that you have more than one perfect job. You may have a combination of three good matches or you may even get to create your very own career.
Is this the right thing to do?
Ask yourself, Is this decision working out the way I had hoped? Come up with changes or new choices as you improve your decision-making skills.
