Dear Campus Community,
I am pleased to announce that M. Monir Ahmed will be joining Sonoma State University as our new Vice President of Administration and Finance. He begins this leadership role at SSU on January 3, 2022.
A longtime leader in California higher education, Mr. Ahmed has been responsible for leading budget and fiscal responsibilities at California State University, San Bernardino, as its Associate Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services since 2013. He will continue to support CSUSB while transitioning to Sonoma State, where he will lead budget and planning and fiscal services, procurement and public works contracts, auxiliary and self-support activities, finance, and various other campus administrative support services. He will also oversee university enterprise, the student union, and other affiliated entities.
As SSU’s Vice President of Administration and Finance, Mr. Ahmed will work closely with the academic and administrative leadership throughout the campus, represent the campus on various system-wide affinity groups, and participate in key strategic leadership committees for the CSU. Moreover, Mr. Ahmed will play a lead role in the President’s Budget Advisory Committee, strategic planning initiatives, and the campus fee advisory committee, all of which enhance and support student learning and graduation initiatives.
Prior to joining the team at CSUSB, Mr. Ahmed held similar roles on multiple University of California campuses, and served as a founding team member of the UC Merced campus that opened in 2005. It was there that he helped lead the development of campus infrastructure, programs, and support services, including facilities planning, information technology services, student housing, student health and counseling services facilities, compensation and classification standards, collective bargaining, campus risk and safety services, and campus sustainability programs.
An energetic leader and 25-year advocate for students, Mr. Ahmed’s success in higher education is the result of his ability to simultaneously work on developing campus programs while planning for the long-term goals and objectives of the campus. His long years of service in California higher education offers him a close relationship with many leaders across the California higher education community that results in sustained strategic partnership across university campuses, to ultimately benefit the student, faculty, and the staff.
Mr. Ahmed is a CSU Alum and holds an MBA (MIS) from Cal State Northridge and a B.S in Business from Woodbury University in Burbank, California.
My sincere thanks to the campus-level Search Advisory Committee, led by University Provost, Karen Moranski, for their excellent work towards filling this important leadership position. Please join me in extending Monir Ahmed a warm and sincere Seawolf welcome.
With Gratitude,
Judy K. Sakaki
President
