Campus Community,

The National Weather Service has extended the Excessive Heat Warning for parts of Sonoma County, including the Sonoma State campus. The alert began at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3 and continues through 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8. This alert estimates temperatures to reach upwards of 100 degrees in Rohnert Park during this time period.

All classes and activities are continuing as normally scheduled. However, we encourage you to take proper precautions and take care of yourself during this time.

As a reminder, here are some things to do during this excessive heat:

  • Stay indoors in a cool area.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water.
  • Wear light-weight clothing in light colors when outdoors.
  • Monitor yourself for heat-related exposures outdoors. Seek medical help if you begin to experience any symptoms associated with heat illnesses.
  • Take breaks in shade or indoors when outside for long periods of time.
  • Reduce lights in areas that are not occupied or are otherwise lit by natural light.
  • Outdoor classes should move indoors, if possible, or stay in shaded areas when working outside. If moving indoors is not possible, outdoor classes should not be held.
  • Outdoor athletic activities and competitions should be given proper breaks for cooling off and water breaks.

Employees who work outdoors should take precautions to protect and care for themselves as outlined in the Heat Illness Prevention Program. Employees should contact their Supervisor if they have any questions about the Heat Illness Prevention Program.
