Campus-wide Power Shutdown Dec. 26-30

Monday, December 12, 2022, 10:00am

TO: Campus Community
FR: Facilities Management

Dear Campus Community,

During the week of December 26 through December 30, all electrical power to Sonoma State University will be powered down for critical electrical work.  During this time frame, all campus buildings will be closed.  Access will only be granted for restricted, essential, and/or critical needs.  This restricted access must be pre-approved by your Administrative Manager (AM) and Facilities Management (FM).  Those pre-approved for restricted access will be required to sign in at Central Plant prior to access.

To prepare your office or campus residence for this power shutdown, please ensure the following:

  • Equipment: Completely power down all equipment prior to leaving for winter break, and before December 26. Please unplug power strips for an extra level of safety.
  • Power Supply: Turn off uninterruptible power supplies (UPS’s) as well.  The batteries will not be able to sustain the duration of the power shutdown.
  • Refrigerator/Freezer: Please completely empty your refrigerators and freezers including any automatic ice makers. Please unplug your equipment before leaving and prepare by turning off automatic ice makers a few days in advance and to prevent mold due to moisture, leave the door(s) slightly ajar.
  • Security: Lock doors and secure confidential documents.

Campus Housing Residents:
Please follow the instructions and deadlines published in the monthly Residential Education and Campus Housing (REACH) newsletter, which is sent to your SSU email address. The newsletter will contain details about leaving for winter break and preparing for the planned power shutdown.

Please contact Facilities Management at fmwo@sonoma.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
