Water Quality Update

Sunday, October 12, 2025, 11:45am

TO: Campus Community
FR: Tyson Hill, Associate Vice President, Risk Management and Safety Services

Substantial progress has been made toward restoring safe water on campus, but students, faculty, and staff on campus are still advised to not drink, cook, do laundry, clean, or bathe — including washing hands — with campus-supplied water until further notice. Toilets may be used normally.

Bottled water will be available for staff, students, and housing residents at the Student Center Information Desk beginning at 11 a.m today. Hand sanitizer wipes have been delivered to the Barrel Room in Sauvignon Village and to the Beaujolais Village Meeting Room.

The university’s water engineer has been able to significantly lower chlorine levels this morning. Once chlorine levels have reached the required level, Facilities staff will begin flushing water lines and testing locations around campus. Water line-flushing priorities will be housing and buildings with scheduled activities today.

As buildings are tested and water is safe for use, we will post the building names on the EH&S website. Once the process for clearing buildings for water use begins, an SSU Alert will be sent.

We continue to monitor the progress of remediation and will provide another update late this afternoon or early evening.
